Phuket discusses drones and air taxis between the airport and resorts
On September 23, Phuket put low-altitude aviation on the table as a practical transport option.
What was discussed
Officials reviewed whether drones and new electric air vehicles could carry goods, food, medicines and, in the future, passengers. The meeting brought together Phuket’s governor, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand and provincial and local stakeholders.
Possible routes
Ideas included delivery routes linking supermarkets with hotels in Khok Kloi and Bang Tao, plus routes to Patong, Kathu and Kamala. Passenger concepts included Phuket International Airport to Patong and Karon Beach, as well as Patong to Promthep Cape.
Potential hubs were also discussed for Phuket Airport, the old bus terminal and tourist piers.
Why it matters
The island’s main issue is time. If urgent deliveries or medical transport can move by air, road traffic has more room and service can be faster during peak hours.
The plan is still at the feasibility stage, but it shows Phuket is seriously exploring transport beyond roads.
