Por Tor is underway in Phuket Town, with rituals and parades through Sept. 10

Por Tor Festival is already underway in Phuket Town, starting on 25 August at Phuket Thai Hua Museum on Krabi Rd and continuing until 10 September.

What’s happening

Por Tor is Phuket’s local Chinese ancestor-honouring festival, known for shrine rituals, offerings, processions and the red seasonal atmosphere that takes over parts of Old Town.

The opening ceremony took place at 5pm, and the program now continues across shrines, markets and community spaces around Phuket Town. For residents and visitors, it is one of the easiest cultural events to experience without leaving the city center.

Where to go

The clearest starting point is Phuket Thai Hua Museum on Krabi Rd, with the wider festival route spreading through Phuket Old Town. That makes the event practical for an evening walk: you can combine the ritual atmosphere with food stops, heritage streets and the everyday rhythm of the town.

  • Start: 25 August
  • Ends: 10 September
  • Main area: Phuket Town / Old Town
  • Opening ceremony: Phuket Thai Hua Museum, 5pm

Why people care

For locals, it is a living family and community tradition. For visitors, it is a rare chance to see Phuket as a cultural city, not only a beach destination. If you are in town this week, Old Town is the place to be in the evening.
