Phuket faces a rainy, windy weekend as seas build toward 17 September
Phuket’s west coast is heading into a stretch of thundershowers, stronger wind and rougher seas from 12 to 17 September. For anyone planning a beach day, a boat trip or a drive along the coast, this is the kind of week when the forecast matters.
What the forecast says
For 12 September, the official outlook calls for fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain in Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun. From Phuket northward, southwesterly winds are expected at 20–35 km/h, with waves around 2 metres and higher in thunderstorms.
The 11–17 September outlook keeps the same unsettled pattern across the southwest coast. The strongest phase is expected during 15–17 September, when winds near Phuket and farther north are forecast to increase to 20–40 km/h.
Who should pay attention
Beachgoers, boat operators, pier users and island-hopping travellers should watch conditions closely. In this part of the season, the sea can change quickly: a calm morning does not guarantee safe conditions later in the day.
Drivers on west-coast roads should also expect sudden downpours, reduced visibility and slick surfaces, especially on routes that run near slopes or drainage channels.
