Phuket checks tsunami towers and evacuation routes at Kata, Patong and Kamala

Phuket has checked the parts of its tsunami warning setup that matter most on the beach: towers, evacuation signs and escape routes.

The inspection took place on August 27 at Kata, Patong and Kamala, three busy beaches where clear guidance matters most when crowds are moving fast.

What was inspected

Officials reviewed warning towers, the visibility of evacuation signs, directions to safe zones and the routes people would use to move inland quickly.

Why it matters now

Late August is still a sensitive period for sea conditions on Phuket’s west coast. In that setting, warning systems are not background equipment — they are part of daily safety for residents, workers and visitors.

What people can do

  • Know the nearest uphill route from the beach.
  • Notice the evacuation sign near your hotel, home or café.
  • Check where the nearest assembly point is.
  • Leave immediately if an alert or siren requires it.

For Phuket, the point is simple: when the route is obvious in daylight, it is easier to use in a real emergency.
