Phuket enters wet spell: heavy rain and flood risk may last until Oct 13

From October 9 to 13, Phuket will sit under changeable weather, with thunderstorms, gusty winds and locally heavy rain. In storm zones, sea waves can rise above 2 meters.

This is not just a forecast on a screen. It is a stretch of days when the usual trip to work, school, the market, or the beach is worth checking twice.

What changes

Southern Thailand, including Phuket, is set for a rainy period from October 9 to 13. The west coast is already flagged for showers and unsettled sea conditions, with October 11–13 looking like the wettest part of the week.

That means low roads, underpasses, canal-side streets and hillside routes may react quickly, especially after long rain or during evening downpours.

Who should pay attention

Drivers in Phuket Town, Patong, Kathu, Rawai and on hillside access roads should be extra careful. In places where water drains slowly, it is better not to wait until the road becomes a problem right in front of you.

Anyone going out by boat should also check the sea route and storm area, not just the sky above the hotel. In thunderstorms, wave height can change fast.

What to do now

  • Do not leave a scooter or car in a low spot overnight.
  • Check whether your usual exit road is already taking water.
  • Keep your phone charged and have a backup way to contact people.
  • Leave earlier if your route crosses narrow or hillside roads.

If rain gets stronger, avoid flooded spots and do not drive through unfamiliar water. On Phuket, what looks shallow from the seat often is not.
